Comment: Bought March 2010 expired by sudden death of the Freeview tuner August 2010. Got a return number from Toshiba and returned the item with this number to Amazon who promptly refunded the purchase price. I still had the original packing - always wise if you have the storage space. I then bought a 'used' model (via Amazon) which is working OK.
I have not yet used the CD/DVD or VCR features of the machine for which I bought it. The HDD feature works very well once you have re-written the relevant sections of the 83 page manual. The Analogue and (single) Freeview tuners are separate but I have not tried to use both at once. The tuners are more sensitive than those in the Sony TV I am using.
This machine could do everything you want to do with CD/DVD, VCR, and HDD recording/ playback. The user manual is well written in good English and is very comprehensive, this leading to some difficulty in extracting the actual bits you are concerned with. I have an idea that Toshiba no longer make or repair this model and don't intend to make a similar one but I could be wrong.

Comment: I purchased this unit in Novemebr 2009, and for the last two months it has started turning itself off at random, and refuses to copy from one medium to another. Based on my experience, a poor quality product

Summary: Terrible support from Toshiba!
Comment: This unit was reasonably easy to use and I was satisfied for up to a year.However two days out of warranty and when I had just returned from holiday I switched on and after one second the machine went off never to go on again!I found out that the 'Motherboard'was ruined.
I can't say how many times I phoned Toshiba only to be put on hold again and again and again.I e-mailed three times never to get any reply!
All I can say is Toshiba Customer Service is way too hard to get hold of but Amazon were brilliant and did everything they could to help.
I am not sure I would want to buy a Toshiba product again.

bought this in April 2010,checked all reviews,which seemed good.
however on 07/07/10 it has failed,no power,not very good for a supposedly reliable product.
contacted Amazon (call centre in the phillipines!) told me how to arrange to return it,but not about how to get money back on extended warranty.
further call to Amazon resulted in me being told to contact warranty issuer and tell the I don't want warranty!
not happy,this is amazons job not mine.
Will no longer use Amazon as very unhappy about chain of events!
